Our team founded DBBH last year after noticing a gap at Duke; there were many clubs focused on business and many clubs focused on pre-health, but none focused on the intersection of the two and the breadth of careers you can pursue within the healthcare economy. To address this, we launched the 2025 Business Behind Health Conference, where we had speakers such as Dr. Lisa Carnell, the Director of NASA's Biological and Physical Sciences Division, alongside leaders in holistic health, healthcare innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Our 2026 conference theme: The New Health Order, goes beyond presenting established paths to students. In addition to exploring careers in biotech, consulting, and venture capital, we encourage students to ask, “How is the business of healthcare being revolutionized right now?” and “Where can we innovate?”

The New Health Order prepares students for an age where the fundamentals of health economics—who pays, who profits, who gets access—are being entirely transformed by new technologies, global challenges, and social movements. Students who understand this will be the leaders who shape what comes next.
