About Us
The mission of the Cartoonists’ Collective at Duke (CCD) is to provide a community for Duke students who appreciate or are interested in creating comics, cartoons, and related art forms. Moreover, we strive to promote these art forms on campus and beyond through publications and creative collaborations with other organizations. CCD aims to be a diverse community that embraces creators regardless of style, medium, or genre of interest. We welcome prospective members of all skill levels, from beginners to experienced artists and creators. There are many dimensions to making comics and cartoons, and we embrace creators who enjoy being involved in all aspects of creation, as well as those who prefer just one of them (e.g., only drawing or only writing). In this regard, we are passionate about facilitating partnerships between interested creators. At weekly or biweekly meetings, members are provided with a space to devote time to personal creative projects in the realm of comics, cartoons, and related domains (e.g., illustration, animation). Members can also create work in response to a weekly or biweekly prompt, which can help spur the development of larger projects. Additionally, we aim to offer opportunities to connect with other creators, share work and receive feedback, showcase work for a broader audience, collaborate on organization-wide projects, learn new techniques at educational workshops, and hear from guest speakers in fields related to the comics industry. This group was previously known as Blue Devils Make Comics. Keywords: comic, graphic novel, cartoon, art, manga, manhwa, manhua, animation, anime, zine, illustration, drawing, writing
