The history of American Muslims goes back more than 400 years. Yet, as the Muslim population in America grows so do incidents of Islamophobia. Understanding Islamophobia is especially important today as politicians revive calls to reinstate the Muslim travel ban, and Muslim students report increased incidents of Islamophobia on Duke’s campus. Join the CML for an introductory, interactive training about the history and presence of Muslims and Islamophobia in the U.S. We have capacity for 30 people.

Learn to:
1) Recognize stereotypes of Muslims and understand the diversity of racial backgrounds, practices, and experiences of U.S. Muslims
2) Understand the critical role Islam and Muslims have played in the history of the U.S.
3) Identify the language and rhetoric of Islamophobia and grasp its effects on U.S. Muslims
