About Us
The mission of Duke Students for Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation (DS4TRHT) is to foster a student community of practice focused on dismantling deeply rooted beliefs in racial hierarchies and their individual, interpersonal, and institutional impacts at Duke, Durham, and beyond. Guided by the Truth, Racial Healing, & Transformation (TRHT) Framework, we will work in partnership with the Duke TRHT Center team to enlarge the circles of student engagement with the center’s work and the national TRHT movement. Our activities include but are not limited to: - Interactive workshops on the TRHT Framework, which is a national and comprehensive process to plan for and bring about transformational and sustainable change. The framework seeks to uncover and eliminate the deeply held and often unconscious belief in a hierarchy of human value, thereby addressing the causes and consequences of racism. - Interdisciplinary collaborations: artistic creations, research, and other projects to deepen understanding of the TRHT Framework and its applications. - Opportunities to participate in intergenerational Rx Racial Healing® Circles (RxRHCs) with the Duke TRHT Center - Ongoing training for students as RxRHC co-facilitators - Educational trips to historical and cultural sites in Durham e.g., the Stagville Plantation, the Museum of Durham History, and the City of Durham Public Art Program as well as to community organizations e.g., El Centro Hispano, Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation, and World Relief of Durham, followed by reflective discussions. Our work aims to deepen understandings of the interconnected histories of Duke and Durham and to build relationships between Duke students and the broader intergenerational Durham community. Through education, engagement, and research, we seek to cultivate TRHT student leaders at Duke and as part of the national TRHT movement.
