Citations are the currency of tenure in most academic disciplines, but there are demonstrated inequities and biases within the practices and rates of citation. Women and people of color are historically underrepresented in academia, and their published work is cited at lower rates than white men. Publications from the global south are generally cited less than those from western nations. In this session, we'll discuss the common biases reflected in citation practices, what efforts are being made to address them, and how faculty can strive to be more equitable and inclusive in their citational practice.

We invite faculty and research staff to join Duke librarians for an interactive introduction to citational justice and discussion of concepts and practice for Responsible Conduct of Research credit. Breakout room discussions of a citation diversity statement will be facilitated by a librarian. 25 seats available.

This session is for faculty and research staff. Graduate students register for the student session by clicking here.
