Mission
The English Table is dedicated to creating a vibrant and inclusive conversation space for students with English as their second language—both domestic and international. Through casual conversations, shared meals, and a collaborative learning environment, we aim to accomplish the following:
· Provide a supportive community for all levels of English speakers by facilitating cross-cultural connections, fostering unity, and promoting a sense of belonging between domestic and international students at Duke.
· Forge union between the Duke English Department and the Duke International Student Center in supporting students as they integrate into the Duke academic community.
· Foster an inclusive campus culture committed to active participation and dialogue for all levels of English speakers, both in and out of the classroom.
· Facilitate networking opportunities by encouraging students to meet fellow learners, exchange ideas, and build lasting connections. Provide a platform for open discussions and idea exchange to broaden perspectives and enhance the overall learning experience.
· Share and celebrate the rich cultural heritage and lived experiences of each E-Table member through cultural exchange of language and food as well as a variety of intentional conversation topics.
