Duke Academia for Social Responsibility and the Common Good (DASRCgood) is a community of graduate and professional students committed to exploring how academia can serve the public good. We foster interdisciplinary dialogue to understand how diverse fields—ranging from science and public health to policy, law, and the humanities—can contribute to a more just and equitable society.

Through critical discussions, collaborative learning, and public engagement, we examine the role of research and professional practice in addressing pressing social challenges, including inequality, healthcare advancements, nonprofit efficiency, and policy impact. We also advocate for and engage with social justice movements, including climate action, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), trans rights, women’s rights, and international human rights.

Fellowship: To engender Christian fellowship between Black seminarians, the larger Divinity School, the University and the Durham community.

Education: To ensure the development of theological perspectives, commensurate with traditions of the Black Church and further, to educate the larger community regarding Black Church traditions, theology and experiences in America.

Unity: To foster intentional cooperation between the BSU, the Office of Black Church Studies, Black faculty, and the Black Graduate and Professional Student Association; to maintain ties with Black Divinity School Alumni; and to foster unity between all seminarians regardless of sex, race, and nationality realizing that we are all a part of God's creation.

The Brighter Smile Foundation at Duke is dedicated to improving oral health and promoting brighter, healthier smiles within the Durham community. Our chapter focuses on addressing gaps in access to preventive oral care by providing essential dental hygiene products and education to underserved populations in the local area.
As Duke students and volunteers in the Durham community, we recognize that there is often a disconnect between the university and the populations we aim to serve. Our organization is intentional about bridging this gap by working closely with local volunteers, community organizations, and health centers to ensure our efforts are informed by community needs rather than assumptions. Through these partnerships, we are able to identify priority populations and develop educational initiatives that empower individuals to take ownership of their oral health.
In addition to distributing vital resources such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss, we emphasize sustainable oral hygiene practices that help prevent dental disease and support overall health. At Duke, the Brighter Smile Foundation mobilizes students who are passionate about healthcare and service to create meaningful local impact. The primary purpose of the Lubavitch/Chabad Student Group is to provide living Judaism to the students at Duke within the framework of traditional Judaism. Our objectives include but are not limited to: educational, ritual, and social activities, in addition to counseling and spiritual guidance to individual students. Our organization is based on Chassidic philosophy, as taught locally by the Lubavitch/Chabad Jewish Center directed by Rabbi Zalman & Yehudis Bluming. Our philosophy states that every Jew deserves an equal opportunity to experience and enjoy their heritage. All programs and events of the Lubavitch/Chabad Student Group are within the framework of Halachah, Jewish law, as transmitted by the Rabbis throughout the generations dating back to Moses who received the Torah at Mount Sinai. These goals shall be achieved through weekly Torah (Bible) classes, monthly women's programs, lectures on various Jewish issues, and speakers for religious and cultural events. We will also provide Shabbat and Holiday services, Glatt (the highest Kosher standard) Kosher dinners, Holiday programs, and Shabbatons (unique weekends). This organization shall not be for profit and non-commercial in nature.

Decolonizing Policymaking (DecolPol) aims to foster and facilitate transformational discussion and programming regarding the expansion of policymaking beyond exclusively US-Centered and Westernized approaches. The inclusion and uplifting of global perspectives and issues is a core value of the organization.

DecolPol recognizes that academic institutions are uniquely positioned to shape the tools of analysis used by future policymakers and is therefore invested in expanding the lens and teachings put forth by these institutions. DecolPol aims to shift the burden away from affected, individual students acting alone to advocate for institutional change by instead forming a collective effort that centers decolonial praxis. Club advocacy and initiatives will be grounded in this practice and driven by the principles of restorative justice.

DBA is unique in that it is both a university student government and a professional bar association. As such, DBA performs a variety of functions at the law school, including promoting the student body's academic and professional growth, providing opportunities to strengthen the social and intellectual community at the school, and representing the student body to the Law School, the legal profession, and the greater Durham community.

One of the DBA's most significant functions is overseeing the majority of Duke Law's student clubs and organizations. DBA provides assistance and funding to groups looking to hold events, from lunchtime talks to professional symposia. DBA also charters new student groups, to meet the changing needs and interests of the student body. The efforts of student groups are supplemented by DBA's own activities and programs, including athletic leagues, social events, and student fellowships.

DBA also functions as the liaison between students, faculty, and the administration. To that end, DBA sends student representatives to every major faculty committee at Duke Law, including the Admissions, Faculty Appointments, and Planning and Curriculum Committees. This ensures that students are central to all major decisions at Duke Law, from faculty hires to grading system changes. DBA also sends representatives to the Law Student Division of the American Bar Association, and to Duke's Graduate and Professional Student Council.
