Duke is a partner institution of the US Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National
Laboratory (ORNL), a huge and diverse research center located in eastern Tennessee near
Knoxville. Its mission is incredibly diverse: biology and the environment, clean energy
including fission and fusion, isotope production, basic physical sciences, national security
in multiple contexts, neutron sciences, and supercomputing.

William Jenks of ORNL’s Office of Research Education will be visiting Duke to host an
information session about ORNL’s many opportunities for summer internships and other
student programs aimed at undergraduates and recent graduates. He will provide more
information to our students about opportunities to interview with potential mentors for
priority placement and funding for Summer 2027 as one of their partner institutions.
We are hosting this event in collaboration with the Pratt School of Engineering.
