About Us
The mission of Blue Devils Make Comics (BDMC) is to provide a community for Duke students who enjoy or are interested in making comics and cartoon illustrations. We also aim to promote this art form on campus and beyond through publications and creative collaborations with other organizations. BDMC aims to be a diverse community that embraces creators regardless of style, medium, or genre of interest. We welcome prospective members of all skill levels, from beginners to experienced comic creators and cartoonists. There are many dimensions to making comics, and we are open to those who enjoy being involved in all aspects of creation, as well as those who prefer just one of them (e.g., only drawing or only writing). In this regard, we are passionate about facilitating partnerships between interested creators. At weekly meetings, members are provided with a space to devote time to personal creative projects in the realm of comics, cartoons, and related domains. They can also challenge themselves by creating a short comic strip, character design, concept, or similar in response to a weekly prompt, which can help spur the development of larger projects. Additionally, we aim to offer opportunities to connect with other creators, share work and receive feedback, showcase work for a broader audience, collaborate on organization-wide projects, learn new techniques at educational workshops, and hear from guest speakers related to the comics industry.
