Mission
Duke Academia for Social Responsibility and the Common Good (DASRCgood) is a community of graduate and professional students committed to exploring how academia can serve the public good. We foster interdisciplinary dialogue to understand how diverse fields—ranging from science and public health to policy, law, and the humanities—can contribute to a more just and equitable society.

Through critical discussions, collaborative learning, and public engagement, we examine the role of research and professional practice in addressing pressing social challenges, including inequality, healthcare advancements, nonprofit efficiency, and policy impact. We also advocate for and engage with social justice movements, including climate action, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), trans rights, women’s rights, and international human rights.

DASRCgood seeks to bridge the gap between academia and real-world impact, empowering scholars to apply their knowledge in ways that drive meaningful change. By fostering a culture of responsibility and ethical scholarship, we aim to cultivate a new generation of socially engaged academics and professionals dedicated to the common good.

Allied Scholars for Animal Protection (ASAP) is a national program that fosters student organizations for animal advocacy, with chapters at multiple leading schools like MIT, Harvard, Yale, etc. The ASAP chapter at Duke aims to raise awareness about animal welfare issues in the modern agricultural industry and encourage more compassionate and sustainable choices on campus. We will achieve this through educational events, tabling, outreach activities, and collaboration with other student groups to build a more informed and engaged community. Anyone interested in animal rights advocacy is welcome to join us, regardless of where they are in their personal dietary journey.

Fellowship: To engender Christian fellowship between Black seminarians, the larger Divinity School, the University and the Durham community.

Education: To ensure the development of theological perspectives, commensurate with traditions of the Black Church and further, to educate the larger community regarding Black Church traditions, theology and experiences in America.

Unity: To foster intentional cooperation between the BSU, the Office of Black Church Studies, Black faculty, and the Black Graduate and Professional Student Association; to maintain ties with Black Divinity School Alumni; and to foster unity between all seminarians regardless of sex, race, and nationality realizing that we are all a part of God's creation.

Support: To serve as an agency of support and advocacy to meet the academic, spiritual, and social needs of Black Seminarians.

BOOST Beyond is an extension program of BOOST (Building Opportunities and Overtures in Science and Technology), a multidimensional pathway program to excite underrepresented minority (URM) students in the Durham Public School system about science. BOOST Beyond serves to expand post-secondary access through individualized mentoring. BOOST Beyond pairs Duke graduate and medical students with BOOST high school mentees to provide individualized guidance on navigating the post-secondary school process, with a specific emphasis on the college application process - making a school list, writing college essays, applying to scholarships, choosing schools, and preparing for the transition to college.

Decolonizing Policymaking (DecolPol) aims to foster and facilitate transformational discussion and programming regarding the expansion of policymaking beyond exclusively US-Centered and Westernized approaches. The inclusion and uplifting of global perspectives and issues is a core value of the organization.

DecolPol recognizes that academic institutions are uniquely positioned to shape the tools of analysis used by future policymakers and is therefore invested in expanding the lens and teachings put forth by these institutions. DecolPol aims to shift the burden away from affected, individual students acting alone to advocate for institutional change by instead forming a collective effort that centers decolonial praxis. Club advocacy and initiatives will be grounded in this practice and driven by the principles of restorative justice.

The mission of Duke Decolonize, Dismantle & ReDesign is to engage graduate students at Duke University to provide an organizing space for students, faculty, community members, and more to join the movement to uproot long standing power imbalances in academia that continue to entrench colonial-era structural oppression. DDR aims to do this by restructuring dominant epistemologies and systems of learning; inviting and including marginalized groups to propose solutions to power imbalances, centering them within academia; healing relationships to promote community unity; and fostering academic partnerships that are increasingly diverse and inclusive. DDR operations are founded on a three-part framework centered in decolonization, dismantling systems of oppression and harmful hegemonic ideologies, and the redesign and reform of institutional structures.

The mission of Duke Mobile Med is to work as an interprofessional team to improve health outcomes of uninsured, under-insured and those with less access to resources within the Research Triangle by increasing availability of health services via blood pressure screenings and providing hygiene kits.

We strive to utilize the harm reduction philosophy and establish a safe, nonjudgmental environment by meeting individuals exactly where they are and on their own terms so that people of all backgrounds can receive healthcare screening that is free and accessible.

Duke Robotics Mentorship (DuRM) seeks to connect Duke students with the Durham community through STEM educational outreach. Partnered with the Durham Public Schools (DPS) Encore! Afterschool program, DuRM provides free, fun-focused robotics activities to middle school students to boost their interest and confidence in STEM. Duke's Neurodiversity Advocates (DNA) is dedicated to introducing new healthcare professionals to a broader scope of education regarding disabilities, and facilitating outreach opportunities within our community. Our goal is to highlight and overcome the lack of recognition disability receives as a determinant of health within the finite education of our healthcare system. This currently limited education and exposure to disabilities is a constraint on both understanding the true impact and providing adequate care. Providing holistic care to our patients requires the confident ability of the healthcare professional to eliminate biases, provide trust within our interactions and use respectful language. We hope that interprofessional collaboration will allow us to utilize our unique skill sets to grow as professionals, minimize the distance between the "disabled" and "abled" and build an inclusive environment that will benefit our future patients. While establishing these goals, we hope to be Duke's first Interprofessional Education (IPE) organization to ignite new ways of thinking, connections and opportunities. We aim to provide group members with leadership development opportunities, volunteer experiences within the local community, and extensive education on how to advocate for inclusivity within the healthcare field.

Duke Divinity JustPeace Movement is dedicated to the gospel of liberation found through the person of Jesus Christ. We are committed to education and advocacy for an end to Christian theologies of violence that contribute to local and global acts of apartheid, ethnic cleansing, crimes against humanity, war, and genocide. We aim to intentionally draw connections between local and global movements through our Christian commitment to collective liberation. Solidarity is a gospel imperative, where we join our reflection and action with anyone “whose back is against the wall” to experience God’s justice and peace.

Education: Through intentional dialogue and educational events, DDJPM aims to identify and combat violent theologies within Duke Divinity School (DDS) and Duke University through education and advocacy. We are committed to uplifting historically marginalized voices in DDS classrooms. This begins with educating ourselves and our academic community about these historically marginalized people in local and global contexts, including their economic, political, cultural, and religious experiences.

Advocacy:
We commit to showing up throughout the academic year in solidarity with the efforts of our fellow student organizations committed to liberation through Christ for the marginalized, both within Duke Divinity and Duke University. We believe in collective liberation, meaning that uplifting and cross-pollinating our efforts with other student groups is a strategic and moral imperative.

We engage in responsive advocacy as a spiritual practice and a strategic effort to creatively disrupt the existing conditions of apathy and violence in our communities during times of injustice. From the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee in the Black Freedom struggle to the student-led divestment from South African apartheid, we hope to join the legacy of student action that makes the Gospel of JustPeace visible and tangible.
