Ambassadorial Bus Tour

As a partner in the On The Way program, the Center for Muslim Life (CML) provides educational support through its Ambassadorial Bus Tour, connecting students to key sites in Durham and the Triangle that deepen their understanding of the African American experience. Building on the program’s visit to Charleston and the history of enslavement, the tour explores the legacy of slavery at Historic Stagville in Durham, the impact of Jim Crow segregation, and the resilience and achievement that led to the emergence of Black Wall Street. Critically, the tour weaves in the often-overlooked history of Islam as a vibrant faith tradition and way of life within Durham’s African American community, while also recognizing the broader civic and cultural contributions of the wider, diverse Muslim population across the Triangle. Through this journey, students gain a deeper appreciation for both the challenges and triumphs that have shaped African American history and culture.
