TL;DR SOFC will now fund alcohol through Programming in conjunctoin with a new event and venue guide created with DSG and Student Affairs.
Hi [FIRST_NAME]!
The Student Organization Finance Committee (SOFC), Duke Student Government (DSG) and Duke Student Affairs are excited to announce a slate of new campus life-related changes as part of a new initiative called Fun @ Duke – For Anyone, Anywhere, aimed at creating and supporting a more inclusive, safe, and vibrant campus culture. Changes include:
-
ÔÇïÔÇïRegistered student organizations can reserve campus life spaces and individuals as well as groups of friends living on campus can now reserve most residential spaces for social events free of charge through SpaceFinder, including for Events Involving Alcohol (EIAs)
-
New funding guidelines now enable SOFC and DSG to fund alcohol in accordance with the Events Involving Alcohol guidelines for registered student group events (students must be 21+)
-
A new step-by-step support guide is available. The guide details how and where any undergraduate student can host an event on campus, including information about financial support for registered student organizations
-
A new administrative-student liaison role to support and serve as a resource for registered organizations and individuals as they navigate University processes and policies in putting on social events (more information and contact below)
Groups will be able to use SOFC funds to have alcohol at their events, with an allotment of up to $7 per undergraduate in attendance over 21 years of age. To access this change, hosts must undergo Social Host Training, and we encourage every student involved in these events to undergo the training as well. This legislation does not amend or supersede university policy. Events involving alcohol must be approved by Student Affairs and must follow all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations as detailed on the Student Affairs website and in the guide. Payments for alcohol must be made in accordance with the internal policies of Student Organization and Programming finance.
We hope these changes will help enable a fun, on-campus centered experience for students that is distinctly Duke!
