About Us
• Enhance Astronomy instruction and STEM education at Duke by providing hands-on observation experiences and learning opportunities for students, in collaboration with Duke Teaching Observatory and Duke Physics Department. • Promote and expand the Astronomy, Astrophysics, and STEM community at Duke by hosting community-bonding activities that are related to astronomy or astrophysics, and organizing academic events and learning opportunities in related fields of astronomy for students. • Serve as a platform for outreach activities, helping to enhance science education in local schools and community by providing opportunities to experience astronomical observations and to meet with Duke faculty and students in an informal learning situation. • The fulfillment of the mission of the SDAC depends on collegial and respectful interactions among all of the people engaged in its daily life and special events. In order to establish and maintain a welcoming, inclusive environment, we agree to uphold the highest standards of professional ethics and abide by Duke University's Statement on Values, its Code of Conduct, and its Community Standard; communicate respectfully: avoid insulting, dismissive, or hateful remarks and actions; respond to observed cases of inappropriate behavior so as to promote a shared understanding of our accountability for our actions and for the effects they may have.
