About Us

The Lemur will provide a forum for intellectually ambitious and curious Duke students who wish to share ideas about history, philosophy, politics, art, religion, science, and culture with the broader university community while honing their writing skills with the aid of superb faculty mentorship. The Lemur will be a thought leader on campus, igniting vital discussions about the most vital ethical, political, and cultural questions of our time and all time, and encouraging Duke students to thoughtfully engage with the world and the ideas that shape it. The Lemur will be incorporated into the existing Transformative Ideas program and will be consistent with that program’s broader vision of fostering a more vibrant intellectual culture at Duke. The Transformative Ideas aegis creates a built-in plan for longevity for The Lemur, given that any and all future students in TI courses will be well positioned to continue the work of The Lemur through the writing they produce in those courses. Due to the breadth of offerings within the TI curriculum, this will ensure that a wide array of student voices propel the magazine forward into the future, long after the founding members graduate.
