Light study areas are also available for those who want to stay productive while enjoying the social atmosphere.

🌱 Competitions & Opportunities

1. FEMMES+ is looking for a group of passionate and dedicated volunteers to be on our 2026 Summer Camp Exec Board and Counselor Team! It will be held on campus during Orientation week, from Tuesday, August 18th to Friday, August 21st, from 8 AM - 5 PM. FEMMES+ will cover the cost of early move-in for ALL volunteers starting the Sunday before camp! Apply here by April 30th to be on Summer Camp EXEC or by June 1st to be a Summer Camp COUNSELOR. Please reach out to esc38@duke.edu or ebm38@duke.edu  if you have any questions! 

2. The SportsMedia Technology (SMT) Data Challenge is an advanced data competition in which students analyze real-world baseball tracking data. Projects are open-ended, emphasizing process, relevance, creativity, and communication rather than purely quantitative analysis. Students may participate individually or in teams of up to 4. The challenge will also include tutorials, and finalist teams will be invited to a showcase weekend in November at SMT headquarters in Durham to present to a panel of judges. ​Register by April 29th, and submissions are due July 27th​​.

3. Submit a written work to Significance magazine’s annual writing competition! Winners and runners-up will be announced at the Royal Statistical Society Statistical Excellence Awards in London in July of 2026 and invited to present their articles at the 2026 RSS International Conference in Bournemouth, UK. The winning article will be published in Significance, and the finalists’ articles will be published on the Significance website. Entries can be inspired by your work or studies, current affairs, or one of your personal experiences, hobbies, or obsessions. No topic is off limits. Read entries by previous winners and runners-up, and email your entry to significance@rss.org.uk by May 31!
