Another reminder to join us next Friday, October 10th, for this year’s Summit for Ocean Stewards featuring Dr. Jill Tiefenthaler, CEO of National Geographic! We look forward to an afternoon filled with inspiration, collaboration, and meaningful dialogue with scientists and environmental activists united in the goal of a brighter future for our oceans. + Present your research at SOS!!

Also, apply for the chance to present your own research alongside leading experts and changemakers at SOS through this link.

SOA Bookbagging!

Curious about marine/environmental science classes but not sure what to take? Thinking about upcoming course registration? Another reminder to stop by SOA Book Bagging October 23rd to learn about all the opportunities you have here at Duke! Learn from upperclassmen on their experiences and enjoy free food!

Marine Lab & Climate Scholars Programs

I would also like to call everyone's attention to some awesome opportunities on behalf of Dr. Voigt, program coordinator in the Nicholas School of the Environment: Applications are currently open for the Nicholas School of the Environment Undergraduate Scholars Program (the Marine Lab Scholar Program and Climate Scholars Program), which provides mentorship and funding for Duke undergraduate students interested in faculty-mentored independent research. Applications are due October 17th, 2025 by 11:59 pm. No prior experience is required, and first-years, sophomores, and juniors are eligible to apply. See the links above for more info!
We will be hosting an informal drop-in information session on October 8th from 12:00 to 2:00 PM in Brodhead Center (WU), Room 241 to support any prospective applicants.

That's all for now! Can't wait to see you all next Friday ðŸ˜‰ðŸŒŠ

Best fishes,
Nikki
