🌱 Competitions & Opportunities

1. Schedule a professional development coaching session with DukeLIFE! More information in the graphic below:

2. Apply to TRInity PATHways to Research (TRI-PATH), a new research program being launched in Summer 2026! This program is designed to introduce students to the practice of research. The program includes three integrated components: a for-credit summer course (Arts & Sci 301: Foundations of Research), a mentored research experience with a $3,000 stipend, and cohort-based community-building activities.
Participation requires enrollment in a Summer Session course and payment of applicable tuition and fees; housing is not included, but financial aid may be available. This opportunity is for rising sophomores in natural & quantitative sciences and quantitative social science disciplines. Admission will be through a competitive application process, with ~20 fellows selected. Many fellows will choose to continue working with their research group in subsequent years, which can culminate in the completion of a senior thesis and Graduation with Distinction.
Student applications are due March 16 at 11:15 pm, and letters of recommendation are due March 18 at 11:59 pm.

3. Apply to present at the StatSci Departmental Research Seminar by March 6th! Undergrad students in the department are invited to apply to speak. The talks will be 4-6 minutes long, with 1-2 minutes for Q&A and a couple of minutes to change between presenters. It will be held on Friday, April 3rd, from 3:30-4:30 pm in Old Chem 116. Similar to the usual StatSci Friday Seminars, the event will be followed by a reception in the lobby. To apply, please send an email to dus@stat.duke.edu with the title of your project, the name of your advisor or PI, and a brief abstract. Include a brief paragraph explaining whether this is a thesis or other project, if you will or have presented it elsewhere, and other pertinent details explaining the project's nature, funding, and your involvement. If you have any questions, email dus@stat.duke.edu!
