Section One: Spoken Verb is a spoken word collective invested in the use of poetry
and its performative articulation, spoken word, as a means to navigate selfhood and to
develop social consciousness creatively and meaningfully. By fostering spaces that are
conducive to the production of creative and authentic works, Spoken Verb is committed
to the possibility of spoken word poetry as a project to imagine possibilities beyond the
present social order. We are invested in the growth of members and supporters as
artists, critical thinkers, activists, and people.

Section Two: Spoken Verb's purpose is to harness the collective and creative power of
students interested primarily in (but not necessarily limited to) spoken word. We aim to
create spaces that value and nurture poetic expression of all who are interested
regardless of past experience. Particularly, we are interested and invested in those
voices that have been historically marginalized and systematically silenced. We will
accomplish this through open mics, workshops, showcases, general body meetings
and more.

Section Three: Spoken Verb abides by and supports established Duke University
policies, State and Federal laws, and the Duke Student Government (DSG) constitution.
